Introducing Post & Pantry in Donington on Bain

Introducing Post & Pantry in Donington on Bain who recently joined Select Lincolnshire. They are an independent Village Store, Post Office and Tearoom; committed to fulfilling customer’s needs and exceeding their expectations. They aim to serve the local community, forge business relationships with local suppliers, promote the county of Lincolnshire and employ local people.

This independent Village Store and Post Office has undergone a complete transformation in the last 3 years. With investment of time and money from owners Simon and Diana Lidgard along with funding from the Lincolnshire Wolds Sustainable Development Fund and the Post Office Community Fund the business has been transformed. What use to be a tired local shop stocking everyday essentials now specialises in featuring Lincolnshire products and a tearoom has also been created.

The shop supplies local products including meats (including Lincoln Red beef and Venison), cheeses, pies & pastries, jams and chutneys, bread, milk, honey, oats, flour, gin, beers, wine and even gifts and cards from Lincolnshire artists. As well as fresh fruit and vegetables, dairy products, cereals, biscuits, soups, tinned products, baking products, soft drinks, sweets, chocolate, pet food and household products.

In 2o19, Post & Pantry won the prestigious East Lindsey Business Award for Independent Retailer of the Year, a fantastic achievement. These awards are organised by Lincolnshire Chamber of Commerce and East Lindsey District Council, and are much sought-after!

Simon is the face of Post & Pantry and is extremely customer focused. He is the early bird! Up at 5.30 a.m. to sort and deliver newspapers, deal with milk and bakery suppliers and place the fruit vegetable order – all before 7.30 a.m. The rest of the day is spent serving customers in the shop and tearoom, replenishing stock and cleaning.

Diana is the Sub Post mistress and offers a professional, friendly service including full Postage and Banking service, Bill payments and key top up services, Mobile phone top ups, Foreign exchange services and Lottery.

She too serves customers in the shop and tearoom as well as carrying out market research, negotiating with suppliers and deals with the day to day management, administration and accounts of the business.

Situated in the heart of the Lincolnshire Wolds and on the Viking Way the tearoom is proving popular with walkers, cyclists, tourists as well as the local community. The tearoom offers a selection of hot and cold food and drinks using locally sourced produce and homemade wherever possible.

There is a toilet and hand washing facilities which are open to the general public during opening hours.

The business is recognised as “Pet Friendly” and “Age Friendly Business” by Talk Eat Drink – Ageing Better in East Lindsey and was awarded “Independent Retailer of the Year 2019” in the East Lindsey Business Awards.

In summary Post and Pantry is a Post Office, Village Shop and Tearoom focused on the customer while specialising in the promotion of Lincolnshire products.

They are now working with Naylors, suppliers of delicious ready-to-eat crunchy coleslaw and potato salad products made from ingredients grown on Naylors’ Lincolnshire farm.
